MN Cars & Coffee/Kannonball Fun Charity Rally • Canterbury Park • June 3, 2017 Who doesn’t love the smell of gasoline and coffee in the morning? Cars and Coffee can give you that every Saturday of each month from April to October. This time in June, was the first Cars and Coffee at a brand-new location at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN. We could not have been more excited about a new change of pace with the location for one of our favorite monthly events, along with showcasing our new tent and our fantastic new swag. This Cars and Coffee was especially exciting because of the Kannonball Charity Rally, (organized by the same guy, Tyler Christopherson, and his crew), was right after Cars and Coffee. The Kannonball Charity rally is a scavenger hunt and cruise that goes on for the remainder of the day, with checkpoints and challenges along the way. On top of it being one of our favorite events this year, it supports an amazing cause. Nothern Voices is a school that helps deaf children speak and listen with their cochlear implants and hearing aids.
Thousands of car enthusiasts descended upon the parking lot of Canterbury Park Casino in Shakopee, MN for the MNCEC Ignition Car Show. You could not have asked for a more beautiful day to browse 1000+ high-end & modified cars, and MBCA-MNMB was front-and-center for the festivities. The new Petronas green and black tents flanked the sides of the MBCA-MNMB section, and there were plenty of AMG’s to fill the space in-between. Highlighted by Christopher Haas’ new (to him) CLK63 AMG Black Series and Eric Sorenson’s 650 horsepower Stage 3 supercharged C63 AMG, it was clear that MBCA-MNMB had arrived (photo at bottom of page). The big brand presence drew in Mercedes owners and fans alike and gave board members an opportunity to engage with all who approached. The show was a huge success, and we look forward to attending next year. We hope to be joined by an even larger group of MBCA-MNMB members at the MNCEC Ignition Car Show in 2018!
What a beautiful day for one of the biggest car shows in the Midwest! MNMB had the most participants from any other club in Minnesota register for the KannonBall Fun Rally (see Events for details) which gained us VIP access to Cars and Coffee. We got the luxury to setup shop and show case some of our members rides on the plaza at AutoMotorPlex in Chanhassen. Check out some of the pictures we took!
MNMB Go-Kart Racing • MB2 Raceway • 3/26/2017 Our very first MB2 Raceway go-karting event was a success! On a gloomy Sunday in March, the MNMB club made its way over to the MB2 Raceway in Fridley, MN with helmets in hand and shoes laced up tight. While some of us showed up in our favorite Mercedes gear, John Olson managed to put all of our outfits to shame with his awesome full body race suit! With our Grand Prix package, we enjoyed a 9-lap practice round, a 14-lap qualifying round, and a 14-lap grid-start position-based Grand Prix. There were a couple of bumps, spinouts, and crashes, but hey, rubbin’ is racin’! I was thrilled to take home some hardware coming second to the event champion Antonio Della Polla and sharing the podium with my good friend Kevin Owles. At the end of the event, there was an overwhelming excitement for future go-karting events. After much discussion with the members who participated, we decided that we would likely plan another event for late fall or early winter to scratch that need-for-speed itch. As with all first-time events, we weren’t sure what to expect, and we certainly learned a few things for next time. We would welcome all suggestions on how to make a future event more attractive for those who did not come out this time around and would also appreciate feedback from those that attended on what could be done better next time. In the future, we hope to garner enough interest to rent out the entire facility for an MNMB event with less interruption and more time racing.

Monthly Lion’s Tap Dinner • Lion’s Tap • 3/1/2017 The last Lion’s Tap event went extremely well! This event has been ongoing for over a decade with its up and down attendance, some nights great other nights only one or two people. This last one was exceptionally well attended like it was a brand new event again. This event is another example of the merger of two great clubs coming together and reinvigorating past events. There were many new faces as well as old ones with the regulars being very excited about all the new attendees. Look forward to having more exceptional Lion’s Tap Wednesday nights in the future! You can’t go wrong with a Tap burger! If you’re interested in attending a future event, they occur on the first Wednesday of every month at 6 pm. Hope to see you there!
Bi-Monthly Brunch • Punch Bowl Social • 2/19/2017 Our first brunch for the Minnesota Mercedes-Benz Car club of 2017 was at Punch Bowl Social in Saint Louis Park, MN. We had about 17 people join us for tasty food and some Sunday Funday-ness! It was also warmer than our usual mid-February Minnesota weather, so lots of us were able to get our cars out of hibernation and drive them a bit!
Valentine’s Brunch • Lord Fletcher’s • 2/12/2017 Paul and Chris Bergquist hosted this year’s Valentine’s Brunch at Lord Fletcher’s on Lake Minnetonka on February 12th. We toasted Valentine’s Day with mimosas or orange juice in the beautiful Lakeside Room, overlooking the lake. As in past years, the huge brunch buffet offered everything from traditional breakfast items to prime rib and their famous walleye. Also, lots of great salads, fresh fruit and a huge separate table for their fabulous desserts. The waffles with fresh strawberries and blueberries, topped with whipped cream were delicious. Heart-shaped boxes of chocolate candy were given to each attendee, and the ladies all received several roses when they left. Paul Bergquist introduced guests and new members attending and also reminded everyone of upcoming events in February and March. Paul and Chris Bergquist step down as events coordinators in 2017 and Jen Cook, who has lots of energy and great ideas, has volunteered to accept this position going forward.
